Béres Pharmaceuticals celebrates 30 years of manufacturing in Szolnok

Thirty years ago, production of Béres Drops began at the company’s factory in Szolnok, Hungary. In 1996, the site employed 60 people, had a production area of 925 square metres and manufactured just four products. Today, it employs 372 people and produces nearly 200 different Béres products. The company marked the factory’s 30th anniversary with a celebration in Szolnok on 1 October.

“Establishing the factory brought pharmaceutical manufacturing expertise to Szolnok and marked a new phase in the development of Béres Drops, an innovation originating in Hungary. During this period, Béres Drops became a registered medicine, and Béres developed into a pharmaceutical manufacturer,” recalled Dr József Béres, owner of Béres Pharmaceuticals.

Three decades of growth and modernisation

Over the past 30 years, Béres has invested HUF 25 billion in its Szolnok facility, largely financed through reinvested profits. The site is now a modern pharmaceutical manufacturing centre with a production area of 6,498 square metres.

“The facility is now much more than a manufacturing site. It has become an integrated centre for manufacturing, quality control, research and development, and logistics,” said Balázs Sipos, CEO of Béres Pharmaceuticals.

Investment has also focused on modernising production, increasing automation and improving sustainability. These developments include robotic systems used in Béres Drops production, automated warehousing and a solar power system that supplies 28% of the factory’s annual electricity needs.

Beyond its manufacturing operations, Béres has also become one of Szolnok’s major employers, making an important contribution to the local economy over the past three decades. “Seeing our family name on millions of product packs gives me both motivation and a strong sense of responsibility. Our aim is not only to preserve what we have built, but also to take our family business forward,” said Marcell Béres, President of Béres Pharmaceuticals.
