Cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon)
Commonly called Bearberry, or American (Large) cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon), is a species of the cranberry (Vaccinium) genus belonging to the heather family (Ericaceae). Its berry crop is also consumed as a fruit, spice and medicinal herb.
The American cranberry has a phytochemically rich composition, with especially high amounts of polyphenols occurring in the plant. One of the specific groups of polyphenol compounds is known as proanthocyanidins and is divided into two types: A- and B-type proanthocyanidins.
European goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea L.)
Asteraceae – belongs to the flowering plant order Asteralis.
It is a perennial plant native to North Africa, Europe and the temperate regions of Asia.
The plant reaches 50-100 cm in height and does not usually branch. The lower leaves are ovoid with serrated edges, and the upper ones are narrower, usually with rounded edges. It flowers from July to October. The yellow inflorescences occur in complex clusters. Its most characteristic active substances are flavonoids.
